Why Winter is a good time for Interior Painting

Is summer is the best time to give your house that painting makeover it deserves?

Well, contrary to what most people believe, winter tends to be the best times for house painting.

There are many reasons for this.

On the East Coast of Australia, in Newcastle particularly, summer can present many problems for that wall painting project. In winter, the humidity level is always less, and lower humidity level means less moisture in the air. Less moisture means quicker paint drying time. Therefore, winter is considered the “off-season” and gives you much better painting conditions.

Here's some great reasons why winter is the perfect season for interior painting.

Cheaper quotes and more availability

The demand for interior painting services is significantly during Winter. This is due to the common misconception about seasonal painting. Spring and summer tend to be high-demand seasons for professional painting services, resulting in higher painting quotes and longer waiting times.

All of this makes winter a much better time to give your rooms that makeover you have been planning. It's particularly good if you have a larger painting project. Professional painters have less time pressures which makes the whole process less stressful for them and for you!

More Stable Weather Conditions

Winter weather patterns tend to be more stable, which provides better conditions for painting.

Before you start your house painting project, it is essential you check the local forecast. This allows you to better schedule the right time for the best results. Every part of a painting project, including preparing the surface, painting, drying, and priming depends on stable weather and air temperature.

During winter, temperatures and weather conditions are generally more stable, which reduces interruptions and  helps get the job done quicker. This applies to both interior and exterior painting, however your exterior painting project is better done when the weather is sunny and warmer.

Less humidity

During summer, the humidity is mostly higher and can cause problems for painters. When humidity is high, the ability for paint to adhere is reduced, making it more difficult to spread evenly. However, during winter the moisture in the air is less and humidity is normally lower. This makes painting jobs easier to schedule and even easier to finish!  Therefore, for best results and normally lower costs, try to plan your painting jobs to start during the cooler months of the year.

Interior surface temperature

The temperature of the wall surface is one of the most important aspects of interior painting. The specified minimum application temperature important,  not just for air temperature but also the temperature of the wall surface to be painted. Ensure you check if the wall or ceiling surface is warmer or colder than the air. Generally, the surface temperature will be less than the air temperature during winter.

Professional painters use infrared thermometers to measure the temperature difference between surface and air, this takes the guesswork out of painting.

Winter offers more flexibility

Winter weather is more stable and make planning your project easier. Professional painters are usually less busy during winter, making it easier to schedule and lock in your preferred time.

Faster drying time

Contrary to what most people believe, interior paint will dry much faster in the winter than in summer!

As discussed, moisture and humidity in the air have considerable effect on paint drying time.

During winter, the air is colder and the moisture level is lower. All of this makes starting your next painting job during winter a smart decision.

The perfect season for rejuvenating your house!

Now that you know why painting in winter is the best option, it's time to get started on your exciting house makeover project. And since you are more likely to be spending more time indoors during winter,  you can focus on exciting colour palettes and designs.

And now you know that Winter is the slow season for most professional painting services, they will be more available to discuss colours and textures with you.
